Max - Have one, it's great. Raises my bike 24" off the floor. You're right about the shim although it's not a necessity but I use a piece of wooden lathe cut to size actually on both sides. It compensates for the sidestand prong hanging down on the left side. I think the tie downs they provide however are junk so I just use my regular heavy duty trailer tie downs.
